Bottle Rocket is a short crime comedy about three friends who decide to pull off a robbery. Dignan, recently discharged from a psychiatric hospital, takes charge of the scheme, drawing his friend Anthony and their marijuana-growing neighbor Bob into the plan. The group bungles its way through the job, with the three constantly getting in each other's way. The film runs fourteen minutes and was directed by Wes Anderson, who also co-wrote it with Owen Wilson.
The cast includes Owen Wilson, Luke Wilson, and Robert Musgrave, with smaller parts played by Elissa Sommerfield, Isiah Ellis, and Temple Nash. Anderson directed the short in 1993, three years before he turned the same story into a feature-length film, also titled Bottle Rocket. This was Anderson's first work as a director and stands as the beginning of a long filmography. Cynthia Hargrave, Darren Kasmir, and Andrew Wilson produced.
Audience response has been modest. On IMDb the short holds a rating of 6.6 from roughly 7,900 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.2 from a little over 200 votes. The scores suggest a mixed but generally favorable reception, with the larger IMDb sample placing it somewhat higher than the smaller TMDB group.
