This documentary examines the failure of the Fyre music festival, which was promoted as an exclusive luxury event on a private island. While guests paid high prices expecting top-tier musical acts, yachts, and high-end amenities, they instead arrived to find a disorganized disaster featuring basic tents and simple food. The film explores how an unscrupulous entrepreneur engineered this collapse, turning a promised paradise into a widely publicized farce.
Directed and written by Chris Smith, Fyre is the third film in a series of his works that includes American Movie and Collapse. The production was a collaboration between Library Films, VICE Media, and Jerry Media. The cast consists of 47 credited individuals appearing as themselves through archive footage or interviews, including co-founders Billy McFarland and Ja Rule, journalist Gabrielle Bluestone, and former NFL player Jason Bell.
The film has been generally well-received by both viewers and professionals. On IMDb, it holds a rating of 7.2/10 based on 54,000 votes, while its TMDB rating is slightly lower at 6.9/10 from 1,039 votes. Film critics provided a higher score of 7.6/10 across 94 reviews, indicating a more positive reception from critics than from the general audience.
