N.T.R: Kathanayakudu is a Telugu-language drama that traces the life of Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao, the actor and filmmaker who later served as Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. The film follows his rise in the Telugu film industry and the personal and public life surrounding it, with his wife Basavatarakam figuring prominently. Nandamuri Balakrishna, Rama Rao's son, plays his father, and Vidya Balan appears as Basavatarakam. Kalyan Ram plays Nandamuri Harikrishna, while Rana Daggubati and Manjima Mohan appear as Nara Chandrababu Naidu and Nara Bhuvaneswari. The supporting cast is large, with thirty-two credited performers.
Krish Jagarlamudi directed and wrote the screenplay, and the film was produced by Nandamuri Balakrishna, Sai Korrapati and Vishnuvardhan Induri. It followed Jagarlamudi's Gautamiputra Satakarni and Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi, and was released in January 2019 alongside the latter, before his later productions Hari Hara Veera Mallu: Part 1 – Sword vs Spirit and Ghaati.
The film runs 170 minutes. Audience scores are modest: on IMDb it holds 5.8 out of 10 from around 2,300 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 5.2 out of 10 from a much smaller number of votes. The two ratings point to a similar, middling reception among viewers, with the larger IMDb sample giving a slightly more favourable picture.
