Black Sea

Black Sea is a drama about the developing bond between Gemma, a recently widowed elderly woman in Italy, and Angela, a young Romanian caregiver. Their professional relationship evolves into a close friendship until Angela learns that her husband has disappeared in Romania. While Gemma initially resists letting Angela leave due to her own fear of loneliness, she eventually decides to accompany the younger woman to the Danube delta. Together, they travel to Romania in search of the missing man and their own personal truths.

Directed by Federico Bondi, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Cosimo Calamini and Ugo Chiti, the film is a joint production between Italy, Romania, and France. The lead roles are played by Ilaria Occhini as Gemma and Doroteea Petre as Angela, with a supporting cast that includes Maia Morgenstern, Corso Salani, Vincenzo Versari, and Giuliana Colzi. The production was supported by RAI, Manigolda Film, HiFilm Productions, and Film Kairòs. The film holds a rating of 6.7/10 on IMDb based on 212 votes.
