Poms follows Martha, a woman who moves into a retirement community in Arizona and expects to live quietly. Her neighbor Sheryl, who is outgoing and full of energy, draws her into the lives of the other residents, and together the women decide to form a cheerleading squad. Their project meets resistance along the way, but the group pursues it as a way to show that growing older does not mean giving up on having fun.

The film is a comedy directed by Zara Hayes from a screenplay by Shane Atkinson. Diane Keaton plays Martha, with Jacki Weaver as Sheryl, Rhea Perlman as Alice and Celia Weston as Vicki among the residents, while Alisha Boe and Charlie Tahan appear as younger characters. The cast runs to several dozen credited performers. The production was split among British, Canadian and American companies.
