Rocks is a British drama about a fifteen-year-old girl in London who is left to raise her younger brother on her own after their mother goes away. Fearing that social services will separate the siblings if anyone learns of their situation, Rocks hides the truth and relies on her closest friends to get through each day. The story follows her attempts to keep up appearances at school, find money and avoid the authorities, while the pressure of caring for a child gradually pushes her toward choices she cannot control.
The film was directed by Sarah Gavron, her third feature after Brick Lane and Suffragette, from a screenplay by Claire Wilson and Theresa Ikoko, and was produced by Faye Ward and Ameenah Ayub Allen for Film4, the BFI, Head Gear Films and Metrol Technology. Bukky Bakray plays Rocks, with Kosar Ali as her friend Sumaya, D'Angelou Osei-Kissiedu as her brother Emmanuel, and Shaneigha-Monik Greyson, Ruby Stokes and Tawheda Begum among the cast of thirty-one credited performers. It runs 94 minutes.
Released in September 2020, the film holds a rating of 6.6 out of 10 on TMDB from around a hundred votes, indicating a modest but positive response from that audience.
