The Sentinel

Pete Garrison is a veteran Secret Service agent who once took a bullet for a president and now heads the detail protecting the First Lady. When a fellow agent is killed before he can pass on information about a threat inside the White House, Garrison begins to suspect a traitor in the ranks. The investigation instead turns on him: he is accused of being the mole behind a plot against the president, and a blackmailer who knows about a secret in his personal life uses it to tighten the trap. Stripped of his post and hunted as a fugitive, Garrison has to rely on everything he knows about the service he helped build to expose the real conspirator and stop the attack.

Clark Johnson directed the film, his third feature after Boycott and S.W.A.T., from a screenplay by George Nolfi. Michael Douglas, who also produced, plays Garrison, with Kiefer Sutherland as David Breckinridge, the investigator and former protégé leading the manhunt, Eva Longoria as his partner Jill Marin, Kim Basinger as Sarah Ballentine, Martin Donovan as William Montrose and Ritchie Coster as the blackmailer known as The Handler.

Released in 2006, the thriller cost about 60 million dollars and took roughly 78 million worldwide, a modest return. Ratings on IMDb and TMDB both stand at 6.1 out of 10, while the critics' score of 5.2 from 131 reviews places it below those audience figures.
