Georges, a man in his forties, walks away from his ordinary suburban life and spends his savings on a fringed deerskin jacket he has set his heart on. The seller throws in a digital camcorder, and Georges checks into a nearly empty hotel in a remote French mountain area, where he begins filming himself and everything around him in the jacket. He meets Denise, a bartender and film enthusiast who hopes to work as an editor, and lets her believe he is a director scouting for a shoot. His attachment to the jacket hardens into obsession, and he drifts toward violence.
Quentin Dupieux wrote and directed Deerskin, the seventh of the sixteen features he has directed, arriving between Keep an Eye Out and Mandibles. Jean Dujardin plays Georges, with Adèle Haenel as Denise and Albert Delpy among the supporting cast of twenty-five credited performers. The Franco-Belgian-Swiss production runs 77 minutes and was released in June 2019.
On IMDb the film holds 6.6/10 from around 13,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.5/10 from roughly 795 votes, while a critics' rating stands at 7.2/10 from 123 reviews, a higher figure than either audience score. It grossed about 2 million dollars worldwide.
