Set in a fishing village on the Maine coast, Blow the Man Down follows two sisters, Mary Beth and Priscilla Connolly, who are mourning their mother's death. Their grief is complicated by a dangerous encounter with a man, leaving them with a crime they need to hide. As they try to cover it up, they are drawn into the town's criminal underworld and its closely held secrets.
The film is the feature debut of directors Danielle Krudy and Bridget Savage Cole, who also wrote the screenplay; both went on to direct House of Spoils in 2024. Morgan Saylor and Sophie Lowe star as the sisters, with Margo Martindale, June Squibb, Annette O'Toole and Marceline Hugot in supporting roles. It runs 90 minutes and blends comedy, drama and mystery.
Released in 2019, the film drew a critics' rating of 7.6/10 from 123 reviews, noticeably higher than its audience scores of 6.4/10 on IMDb from around 13,000 votes and 6.2/10 on TMDB from 346 votes. That gap suggests critics responded more strongly to the film than general viewers did.
