Brain Dead

Brain Dead is a 1990 horror, science fiction and thriller film about Dr. Rex Martin, a neurosurgeon who studies the brain malfunctions behind mental illness. When an old friend named Jim Reston asks for his help, Martin becomes involved with a corporation that wants to use his research for its own ends. He agrees to operate on Jack Halsey, a mathematician whose mind holds information others want. Afterward, Martin finds his sense of reality slipping, and he struggles to keep hold of his own mind as he is drawn into the corporation's plans. The film was directed by Adam Simon, who also wrote the screenplay with Charles Beaumont. It was Simon's first feature, followed by Carnosaur three years later. Bill Pullman plays Martin, with Bill Paxton as Reston and Bud Cort as Halsey. Patricia Charbonneau, Nicholas Pryor and George Kennedy also appear, among 35 credited cast members. Julie Corman produced, and the budget was about 2 million dollars. On IMDb it holds a rating of 5.8 from around 6,400 votes, and on TMDB a rating of 5.7 from 141 votes. A critics' rating of 5 out of 10 from six reviews sits close to those audience scores, suggesting a modest reception across the board.
