Windstorm 3 is a German family adventure film about Mika, a young horse whisperer who has become a well-known figure at the Kaltenbach therapy centre run with her grandmother. The attention and demands of her work leave her feeling confined, and after a serious argument with her grandmother she sets off for eastern Andalusia, in Spain, where she believes Ostwind, her black stallion, may have come from. There she is mistaken for a temporary worker at Pedro's hacienda and is put to work by his daughter Samantha, but she still slips away to ride. In the dry steppe she finds a herd of wild horses that appears to be Ostwind's family, and the place turns out to be under threat.
Katja von Garnier directed, following Windstorm (2013) and Windstorm 2 (2015); her earlier films include Making Up! and Blood and Chocolate. Lea Schmidbauer wrote the screenplay, and Hanna Binke returns as Mika, with Lea van Acken, Amber Bongard, Marvin Linke, Nicolette Krebitz and Thomas Sarbacher among the cast.
Released in July 2017, the film runs 106 minutes and is a Constantin Film production. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.1 from 859 votes, while on TMDB the rating is 7.4 from 145 votes, a gap that suggests the film has registered more strongly with a smaller, likely more devoted audience than with the wider voting public.
