Love and Monsters

Seven years after giant monsters took over the surface, Joel Dawson lives with other survivors in an underground bunker, cut off from the world above. When he reconnects by radio with Aimee, his girlfriend from high school, who is now with a coastal colony some distance away, he decides to leave the safety of the bunker and cross monster-held territory to reach her. Alone at first and poorly suited to the journey, he meets other survivors along the way, including a skilled hunter named Clyde and a young girl named Minnow, who teach him how to face the creatures that now dominate the land.

The film is a post-apocalyptic adventure comedy directed by Michael Matthews, written by Brian Duffield and Matthew Robinson, and produced by Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen. Dylan O'Brien plays Joel, with Jessica Henwick as Aimee, Michael Rooker as Clyde, Dan Ewing as Cap, Ariana Greenblatt as Minnow and Ellen Hollman as Dana. It was released in October 2020 and runs 109 minutes.

Made for about 30 million dollars, it took in roughly 1 million dollars worldwide, a very small return against its cost. On IMDb it holds 6.9/10 from around 159,000 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 7.3/10 from about 4,600 votes. A critics' rating of 7.3/10 from 116 reviews places it close to the audience score on TMDB.
