Bad Dreams

Bad Dreams is a 1988 American horror thriller about a young woman named Cynthia who survives a mass suicide carried out by a cult called Unity Field and its leader, Harris. She spends thirteen years in a coma, and when she wakes she has no clear memory of what happened. As she begins to recover, people around her start taking their own lives and she is troubled by visions of Harris. Her psychiatrist tries to help her piece the past together, but the line between memory and hallucination becomes hard to hold, and she comes to suspect that the cult leader's hold on her has not ended.

The film was the first feature directed by Andrew Fleming, who co-wrote the screenplay with Steven E. de Souza. Gale Anne Hurd produced it for 20th Century Fox and No Frills Film Production, with a budget of four million dollars; it took about ten million dollars worldwide. Jennifer Rubin plays Cynthia, with Bruce Abbott as Dr. Alex Karmen and Richard Lynch as Harris, alongside Dean Cameron, Harris Yulin and Susan Barnes. Roughly forty-seven credited cast and one hundred and five credited crew members worked on the production.

Fleming went on to direct Threesome, The Craft, Dick, The In-Laws, Nancy Drew, Barefoot and Ideal Home, in that order. On IMDb the film holds a rating of 5.7 out of 10 from about 4,700 votes, and on TMDB it also stands at 5.7 from around 113 votes, indicating a modest and divided response from viewers.
