Age of the Dragons
Short description
Based on the novel Moby Dick by Herman Melville, this fantasy adventure takes place in a medieval world where crews hunt dragons to obtain vitriol used for power. Captain Ahab leads a quest for revenge against a massive white dragon that scarred him and killed his family years prior. Along with his adopted daughter Rachel, who manages the hunting ship, Ahab is joined by a harpooner named Ishmael and his companion Queequeg. As the crew ventures into dangerous territory, Rachel is forced to decide whether to support her father's obsession or seek a different future with Ishmael.
Directed by Ryan Little, this was the third film in his career, following Saints and Soldiers and Forever Strong. The cast features Danny Glover as Ahab, Corey Sevier as Ishmael, Vinnie Jones as Stubb, and Sofia Pernas as Rachel. Produced in the United States with a budget of 5 million USD, the film has a runtime of 91 minutes. Audience reception has been generally poor, as reflected by a 4/10 rating on TMDB based on 111 votes.
What's left behind the scenes
- Danny Glover (who played Captain Ahab) had only eleven days for filming. Due to this circumstance, some changes were made to the script: it was written that he had once been injured during an encounter with a dragon, and that his skin cannot tolerate direct contact with sunlight. Throughout the film, the character's face is shown only a few times—always indoors, at night, or during a snowstorm. In all other scenes, stand-ins were used, and Glover's lines, recorded in a studio, were later dubbed over the footage.
