Gamera 3: Revenge of Iris is a Japanese fantasy horror film about a giant turtle monster whose bond with humanity has been broken. After the man-eating Gyaos creatures resurface, Gamera's connection to Asagi, the young woman linked to him, is severed. While Dr. Mayumi Nagamine and Asagi search for answers, an orphaned girl named Ayana Hirasaka finds a strange egg in a cave and raises the creature that hatches from it, naming it Iris. Ayana blames Gamera for the deaths of her family, and the film follows the race to reach her before Iris grows into a threat of its own.
Shusuke Kaneko directed the film, his fourth feature and the third entry in his Gamera trilogy following Gamera: The Guardian of the Universe (1995) and Gamera 2: Advent of Legion (1996). He wrote the screenplay with Kazunori Ito. Ai Maeda plays Ayana, with Aki Maeda as the younger Ayana, Shinobu Nakayama as Nagamine, Ayako Fujitani as Asagi, and Yû Koyama and Nozomi Ando among a credited cast of 49. Produced by Daiei Film on a budget of about 6 million USD, it returned roughly 15 million USD worldwide. Reception has been solid rather than spectacular: it holds 7.1/10 on IMDb from around 3,700 votes and 7.4/10 on TMDB from about 135 votes, suggesting a well-liked entry in the series.
