The Marvels

The Marvels follows Carol Danvers, Monica Rambeau and Kamala Khan, whose light-based powers become linked after an encounter with an anomalous wormhole connected to a Kree revolutionary. Whenever any of the three uses her abilities, she swaps places with one of the others, leaving the trio scattered across space. Carol, a former astronaut now working with S.A.B.E.R., is joined by her estranged niece Monica and by Kamala, a Jersey City teenager who idolises her. The three must learn to coordinate their powers and fight as a team. The film continues the stories established in Captain Marvel, WandaVision and Ms. Marvel, with Brie Larson, Teyonah Parris and Iman Vellani reprising their roles. Samuel L. Jackson returns as Nick Fury, and Zawe Ashton plays the Kree antagonist Dar-Benn. Nia DaCosta directed and co-wrote the screenplay with Megan McDonnell and Elissa Karasik; it followed her 2021 film Candyman and was produced by Kevin Feige for Marvel Studios.

Released in November 2023, the film runs 105 minutes. Its reported budget of 220 million USD far exceeded its worldwide box office of 206 million USD, a shortfall for a production of that scale. Audience scores are mixed: on IMDb it holds 5.5/10 from around 162,000 votes, and on TMDB 5.9/10 from roughly 3,600 votes. The critics' rating stands at 5.9/10 from 377 reviews, closely matching the audience averages. The large gap between the number of IMDb votes and the much smaller TMDB and critics' samples reflects differing user bases rather than a divided response, since the three figures sit within half a point of one another. The credited production involved 37 cast members and 185 crew.
