Nadine

Set in Austin, Texas, in 1954, Nadine centres on a hairdresser who wants to get back some revealing photographs she once posed for. When she goes to the photographer's office, she walks in on his murder and leaves with the wrong envelope, which turns out to hold plans for a shady land deal worth millions. Her estranged husband Vernon, a chronically broke bar owner, sees a chance to sell the documents, but the ruthless businessman behind the scheme wants them back and is willing to kill for them. Nadine and Vernon find themselves on the run together, pursued by gunmen and the police, even though their marriage was all but over.

Robert Benton directed and wrote the film, following Places in the Heart and preceding Billy Bathgate in the list of features he directed. Arlene Donovan produced. Jeff Bridges plays Vernon and Kim Basinger plays Nadine, with Rip Torn as Buford Pope; Gwen Verdon, Glenne Headly and Jerry Stiller also appear among the 23 credited cast members. The film runs 83 minutes.

Made for about 12 million dollars, Nadine returned roughly 6 million at the worldwide box office, falling well short of its cost. On IMDb it holds 5.5 out of 10 from around 4,800 votes, and on TMDB 5.4 out of 10 from about 97 votes, placing audience response in the middling range. A critics' rating of 5.1 out of 10 from 11 reviews sits close to those audience scores.
