The Bravados

Jim Douglass arrives in the town of Rio Arriba to watch four men hang for the murder of his wife. Before the execution can take place, the prisoners escape, and Douglass sets out after them, following the trail across the border into Mexico. What begins as a pursuit in the name of justice turns into something harsher as he grows more merciless with each step, and the question of the men's guilt hangs over the hunt.

The Bravados is a 1958 American Western directed by Henry King, the eighth of the nine features listed for him here, arriving after Carousel in 1956 and following earlier work in the genre such as Jesse James and The Gunfighter. Philip Yordan wrote the screenplay, Herbert B. Swope Jr. produced it for 20th Century Fox, and Gregory Peck leads as Douglass, with Joan Collins, Stephen Boyd, Albert Salmi, Henry Silva and Kathleen Gallant in supporting roles.

Released in June 1958 and running 98 minutes, the film holds a 7 out of 10 rating on IMDb from around 7,100 votes and a 6.6 out of 10 on TMDB from roughly 151 votes. The two audience scores sit close together, with the larger IMDb sample slightly more favourable.
