Sloane and Jackson are two strangers who have grown tired of spending holidays single, enduring family scrutiny and awkward setups. After meeting by chance around Christmas, they make a pact to act as each other's platonic plus-one for every festive occasion over the following year, on the understanding that neither is looking for romance. As the year of celebrations unfolds, their arrangement becomes harder to keep strictly casual.

The film is a romantic comedy directed by John Whitesell, written by Tiffany Paulsen and produced by McG and Mary Viola. It is Whitesell's sixth feature, following Malibu's Most Wanted, Big Momma's House 2, Deck the Halls, Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son and Thunderstruck. Emma Roberts plays Sloane and Luke Bracey plays Jackson, with Kristin Chenoweth, Frances Fisher, Andrew Bachelor and Manish Dayal among the supporting cast.

Released in October 2020, the film runs 104 minutes. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.2 from roughly 88,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 7 from around 2,400 votes. A critics' rating of 5.2 from 60 reviews places it below both audience scores. The gap between the larger IMDb sample and the much smaller TMDB sample suggests a modest but divided response.
