Thunder Force

Thunder Force is set in a world where supervillains have become an everyday problem. Emily Stanton, a scientist, has spent years working on a way to give ordinary people superpowers, hoping to create heroes who can fight back. Her plans are complicated by the sudden return of Lydia Berman, her estranged childhood best friend, who accidentally injects herself with the only dose of a strength formula. Emily, who has given herself the power of invisibility, has no choice but to team up with Lydia and turn the pair into the city's first superheroes, even as new villainous forces emerge.

The film was released in 2021 and runs 107 minutes. Ben Falcone directed and wrote the screenplay, his fifth feature after Tammy, The Boss, Life of the Party and Superintelligence. Melissa McCarthy, who also produced, stars as Lydia, with Octavia Spencer as Emily. Jason Bateman appears as The Crab, Bobby Cannavale as The King, Pom Klementieff as Laser and Melissa Leo as Allie, among a credited cast of 43.

Reception was weak. On IMDb the film holds 4.6 out of 10 from 48,000 votes, and on TMDB 5.5 out of 10 from 1,373 votes, while a critics' rating of 4.1 out of 10 from 142 reviews places professional opinion below even the modest audience scores.
