A man raised among apes is discovered in the African jungle and brought to Milan, where he is given the name Bingo Bongo. While scientists study him, only Laura, an anthropologist, treats him as a person and believes he can learn human ways. Their bond deepens into love as he picks up language and other habits of civilized life.
The comedy was directed by Pasquale Festa Campanile, whose earlier films include When Women Had Tails, Hitch Hike, Gegè Bellavita and Saturday, Sunday and Friday; this 1982 release was the fifth film he directed. Enrico Oldoini, Franco Ferrini and Laura Toscano wrote the screenplay, and Mario and Vittorio Cecchi Gori produced it for Intercapital. Adriano Celentano plays the title role, with Carole Bouquet as Laura, alongside Felice Andreasi, Enzo Robutti, Walter D'Amore and Roberto Marelli.
At 102 minutes, the Italian production met a modest response from viewers. On IMDb it holds 6 out of 10 from around 2,500 votes, and on TMDB 5.7 out of 10 from roughly 180 votes, the smaller sample giving a less settled picture of how it has been received.
