Revenge of the Pontianak

A wedding in a Malaysian village draws the attention of a vengeful Pontianak, a female spirit from local folklore, who arrives with a grudge against the groom and everyone around him. The marriage of Mina and Khalid is upended as the creature's presence pushes the couple and their community toward betrayal, witchcraft and violence.

Revenge of the Pontianak is a 2019 Malaysian-Singaporean horror romance directed by Glen Goei and Gavin Yap, who also wrote the screenplay. It was the first of two features Goei has directed, followed by Dead Boys Club in 2024. Bee Thiam Tan produced, and the cast includes Nur Fazura as Mina, Remy Ishak as Khalid, Hisyam Hamid as Reza, Shenty Feliziana as Siti, Namron as Su'ut Din and Tony Eusoff as Rais.

The film runs 93 minutes and was released in August 2019. On IMDb it holds a rating of 5.2 out of 10 from 367 votes, and on TMDB it also stands at 5.2 out of 10, from 23 votes. The two audience scores agree closely, indicating a modest response from viewers.
