Secret Society of Second-Born Royals

Sam is a teenage princess of Illyria who stands second in line to the throne, behind her older sister Eleanor. Restless and uninterested in royal protocol, Sam learns she carries a genetic trait found only in second-born children of royal blood, one that gives her superhuman abilities. She and four other young royals in the same position are brought together at what appears to be a summer program, which turns out to be a training ground for a secret society whose members protect the world from behind the scenes. Before they can take on that role, the recruits must learn to control their powers under an instructor's guidance.

Directed by Anna Mastro, the film follows her earlier feature Walter and is a Disney production shot in Canada and the United States, with a screenplay by Alex Litvak and Andrew Green. Peyton Elizabeth Lee plays Sam, joined by Ashley Liao, Isabella Blake-Thomas, Olivia Deeble, Niles Fitch and Faly Rakotohavana among a credited cast of 33.

Released on September 25, 2020, the film runs 97 minutes and mixes action, adventure, comedy and fantasy. Reception among viewers is modest and spread across a wide range: on IMDb it holds 5.1/10 from roughly 6,900 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.6/10 from 576 votes, suggesting a small but relatively warmer response there than among the larger IMDb group.
