Everybody's Talking About Jamie

Jamie New is a sixteen-year-old growing up in Sheffield who feels out of step with what the people around him expect. Rather than aiming for a conventional career, he wants to perform as a drag queen. With his mother and his closest friends behind him, he faces the disapproval of others and the hostility of schoolmates as he works toward the moment he can step on stage.

Jonathan Butterell directed the film, which is based on the stage musical he also directed, with a screenplay by Tom MacRae. Max Harwood plays Jamie, and Sarah Lancashire appears as his mother, Margaret. Lauren Patel plays his friend Pritti Pasha, Sharon Horgan plays Miss Hedge, Richard E. Grant plays Hugo Battersby, also known as Loco Chanelle, and Shobna Gulati plays Ray. The production involved Regency Enterprises, New Regency Pictures, Film4 Productions and Warp Films, and the film runs 115 minutes.

The film met with a mixed but generally favorable response from critics, whose rating stands at 6.8/10 from 107 reviews. Audiences have been less enthusiastic on IMDb, where it holds 6.6/10 from around 8,200 votes, and on TMDB, where the rating is 6.2/10 from 152 votes.
