Emergency Declaration is a Korean action thriller about a flight from Incheon to Hawaii that becomes the centre of a national crisis. When a passenger dies suddenly and violently from an unknown cause, more people on board fall ill and panic spreads through the cabin and among authorities on the ground. As countries refuse to let the aircraft land and fuel runs low, a police investigation into an online threat converges with the desperate efforts of a government crisis team to find a way to bring the plane down safely.
Han Jae-rim wrote and directed the film, his third feature after The Face Reader in 2013 and The King in 2017. The large ensemble is led by Song Kang-ho as detective Gu In-ho, Lee Byung-hun as passenger Park Jae-hyuk, Jeon Do-yeon as minister Kim Sook-hee, and Kim Nam-gil, Yim Si-wan and Kim So-jin. Production involved 174 credited cast members and 43 credited crew.
Made for about 18 million USD, the film grossed roughly 19 million USD worldwide, a modest return against its cost. On IMDb it holds 6.8 from around 12,000 votes, while on TMDB it has 7.4 from roughly 449 votes, so the smaller TMDB sample is noticeably warmer. A critics' rating of 5.7 from 35 reviews places professional assessment below both audience scores.
