Short description
In the 1600s, an overzealous clergy hauls innocent women in front of tribunals, forces them to confess to imaginary witchery, and engages in brutal torture and persecution of their subjects.
What's left behind the scenes
- Due to its realistic portrayal of an atmosphere of fear and forced confessions, which recalled the Stalinist methods of the communist regime of the 1950s, the film was withdrawn from Soviet distribution and only appeared on television screens after 1989.
