Mandibles
Short description
Manu and Jean-Gab are two friends of limited ambition who steal a car to deliver a briefcase. What they find in the trunk is a giant fly, large enough to snore loudly, and they hatch a plan to train it and turn a profit. Their search for somewhere quiet to work with the insect brings them into contact with a series of odd characters and lands them in one chaotic situation after another. The film is a French-Belgian comedy with fantasy elements.
Quentin Dupieux wrote and directed Mandibles, his eighth feature in a career of sixteen directing credits, arriving between Deerskin and Incredible But True. Grégoire Ludig and David Marsais play Manu and Jean-Gab, with Adèle Exarchopoulos, India Hair, Roméo Elvis and Coralie Russier in supporting roles. The production had a budget of about 5 million dollars and returned roughly 2 million dollars at the worldwide box office.
On IMDb the film holds a rating of 6.6 from around 7,600 votes, while on TMDB it has a 6.3 from roughly 630 votes. A critics' rating of 7.4 from 67 reviews places it above both audience scores, suggesting reviewers responded more warmly to the film than general viewers did. At 77 minutes it is a short, tightly paced comedy.

- Director, screenwriter, and cinematographer Quentin Dupieux later recounted that he was filming something halfway between Steven Spielberg's E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982) and Peter and Bobby Farrelly's Dumb and Dumber (1994).
