An Autumn's Tale

A young woman from Hong Kong arrives in New York City to study and to be with her boyfriend, only to find that he has moved on and left her with nowhere to go. With little money and no way back home, she stays with a relative in Chinatown, a rough-edged man who helps her find her footing in the unfamiliar city and gradually develops feelings for her. When the boyfriend returns hoping to reconcile, she must decide where her future lies. The film, known in Chinese as 秋天的童話, was released in 1987 and runs 98 minutes.

Mabel Cheung directed, working from a screenplay by Alex Law Kai-Yui and Chi-Yeuh Low; Dickson Poon Dik-Sang and John Shum Kin-Fun produced. The cast is led by Chow Yun-fat as Samuel Pang, Cherie Chung Cho-Hung as Jennifer Lee and Danny Chan Bak-Keung as Vincent, with Gigi Wong, Wu Fu-Sheng and Huang Man in supporting roles. It stands as the first of the two features Cheung is credited with directing, ahead of 1:99 Shorts in 2003.
