Graham Dorsey is part of a gang planning a bank robbery in a small Western town. He stops at an isolated house to steal a horse, but instead spends the afternoon with Amanda Starbuck, a young widow living there, while his partners go ahead with the holdup. When the robbery goes badly wrong and the other gang members are killed or captured, Amanda comes to believe Dorsey died as well. She writes a book about him, turning a man she barely knew into a romantic hero of the West, while Dorsey watches his own reputation grow into something unrecognizable.
Frank D. Gilroy directed and wrote the film, which was the first of two features he directed, followed much later by Money Play$. Charles Bronson and Jill Ireland lead the cast as Dorsey and Amanda, with Douglas Fowley, Stan Haze, Damon Douglas and Hector Morales in supporting roles. The production credits list 38 credited cast members and 44 credited crew.
