Beyond the Law is an American action film about Frank Wilson, a former police officer whose life is upended when his estranged son is killed during a break-in. Frank returns to the criminal underworld he once knew, armed and with little left to lose, and sets out to find those responsible. His pursuit brings him into conflict with a local crime syndicate led by Augustino Adair, while a determined detective, Ray Munce, works the case from the other side.
The film was directed by James Cullen Bressack and written by Chad Law and Johnny Martin Walters. It was produced by Timothy Woodward Jr., James Cullen Bressack and Micah E. Brandt, and stars Steven Seagal, Johnny Messner, DMX, Bill Cobbs, Zack Ward and Randy Charach. It runs 90 minutes and was released on December 6, 2019.
Beyond the Law sits between Bressack's Bethany (2017) and Captors (2020), one of several action films he directed across that period. Made on a budget of about 7 million dollars, it drew modest audience scores: 3.6 out of 10 on IMDb from roughly 3,500 votes, and 5.2 out of 10 on TMDB from a much smaller group of 104 votes.
