The Good Doctor follows Martin Blake, a young physician who has spent his life seeking the respect of those around him. Working at a hospital where he feels overlooked by his superiors and colleagues, he meets Diane Nixon, an eighteen-year-old admitted for a kidney infection. Her gratitude and trust give him the sense of worth he has been missing.
When Diane's condition begins to improve and her discharge approaches, Martin cannot accept losing the validation she provides, and he interferes with her treatment to keep her in the hospital under his care. A nurse's discovery of what he is doing leads to blackmail, and the situation escalates.
Lance Daly directed the film, the first in the chronological list of his features, from a screenplay by John Enbom. Orlando Bloom, who also produced alongside Jonathan King and Dan Etheridge, plays Martin, with Riley Keough as Diane and Taraji P. Henson as Nurse Theresa; Rob Morrow, Michael Peña and Troy Garity appear in supporting roles. The American production had a budget of 6 million USD. On IMDb it holds 5.5/10 from around 7,700 votes, while on TMDB it has 6.2/10 from 262 votes, with the critics' rating also 6.2 from 26 reviews.
