Godmothered

Godmothered is a fantasy comedy about Eleanor, a young and inexperienced fairy godmother in training. When she learns that her profession is threatened with extinction, she sets out to prove that people still need fairy godmothers. She finds a letter from a child whose plea for help was ignored years earlier, and tracks the girl down, only to discover that Mackenzie is now a grown woman: a single mother in her forties working as a journalist at a Boston news station. Mackenzie long ago gave up believing in happy endings, and Eleanor resolves to change her life whether she wants it or not.

The film was directed by Sharon Maguire, its fourth feature following Bridget Jones's Diary, Incendiary and Bridget Jones's Baby. Melissa K. Stack and Kari Granlund wrote the screenplay, and Justin Springer produced. Jillian Bell plays Eleanor, with Isla Fisher as Mackenzie Walsh, Santiago Cabrera as Hugh Prince, Mary Elizabeth Ellis as Paula, Jane Curtin as Moira and Jillian Shea Spaeder as Jane Walsh. It runs 110 minutes.

Released in December 2020, the film holds a 6.1 rating on IMDb from around 15,000 votes and a 6.7 on TMDB from roughly 644 votes, while critics gave it 5.6 from 73 reviews, a lower mark than either audience score.
