Short description
National Treasure: Book of Secrets follows treasure hunter Ben Gates, who is drawn into a new investigation when a lost page from the diary of John Wilkes Booth comes to light. The page suggests that Ben's ancestor Thomas Gates was part of the conspiracy behind Abraham Lincoln's assassination. Determined to clear his family's name, Ben sets out with a fresh set of clues, joined by his estranged partner Abigail Chase, his friend Riley Poole and his parents, Patrick and Emily. Their search takes them across several countries and brings them up against Mitch Wilkinson, a rival who is pursuing the same trail for his own reasons.
The film is the sequel to National Treasure, released three years earlier, and is the seventh feature directed by Jon Turteltaub, continuing his long collaboration with producer Jerry Bruckheimer. Nicolas Cage, Diane Kruger and Justin Bartha return in their roles, while Ed Harris and Helen Mirren join the series. The screenplay is by Cormac and Marianne Wibberley, who also wrote the first film.
Made for a reported 130 million dollars, the film took in about 459 million dollars worldwide, a strong commercial result that outweighed mixed notices. It holds a 6.5 rating on IMDb across roughly 266,000 votes and a 6.4 on TMDB from a much smaller pool of voters, while a critics' score of 5 out of 10 from 128 reviews places it below the audience response.

- According to the film's plot, one of the 'Resolute' tables was made for Queen Victoria and is located in Buckingham Palace in London, and the film's characters have to overcome a number of obstacles to achieve their goal. In reality, the second table was gifted to Henry Grinnell's widow in gratitude for his contribution to the search for John Franklin's expedition. It was subsequently donated to the New Bedford City Museum in Massachusetts, where it remains to this day. A table made from the wood of the 'Resolute' bark was indeed made for the Queen and was located in Buckingham Palace for a long time, but it is not a matching table to the 'Resolute' and was made to a different design.
- During the chase scene in London, when Wilkinson's jeep brakes around a corner, it can be seen slightly hitting a sign. The next shot shows the sign standing several meters further on the bridge, with nothing in front of the jeep.
