There Is No Evil is an Iranian anthology drama made up of four separate stories, all set in contemporary Iran and all circling around the death penalty. Each segment follows a different man facing a moral crisis tied to capital punishment and to the limits the state places on personal freedom. One is a seemingly exemplary husband and father whose early-morning departures hide what he actually does; another is a young conscript ordered to carry out an execution he cannot bring himself to perform; a third arrives to propose to his girlfriend only to be thrown into an unexpected dilemma; and a fourth is a doctor barred from practising his profession, who decides to reveal a long-kept secret to his niece when she visits from abroad. The four strands are bound together by their shared subject.
Mohammad Rasoulof wrote, directed and produced the film, which came after Manuscripts Don't Burn and before The Seed of the Sacred Fig and Sense of Water in his filmography. The cast includes Mahtab Servati, Shaghayegh Shourian, Baran Rasoulof, Kaveh Ahangar and Jila Shahi.
The film runs 151 minutes. It holds a rating of 7.5 on IMDb from around 7,800 votes and 7.4 on TMDB from a much smaller number of votes. A film critics' score of 8.2 from 54 reviews places it somewhat above the audience ratings.
