American Underdog

American Underdog tells the story of Kurt Warner, who stock shelves at a supermarket before getting a chance at professional football. The film follows his attempts to build a career in the NFL and the setbacks that threaten to end that ambition before it begins, alongside his relationship with Brenda, a single mother of two.

The film was directed by Jon Erwin and Andrew Erwin, the sixth feature they made together, arriving after I Still Believe and before Jon Erwin's Jesus Revolution and Young Washington. The screenplay was written by David Aaron Cohen, Jon Gunn and Jon Erwin, and the cast includes Zachary Levi as Warner, Anna Paquin as Brenda, Hayden Zaller, Ser'Darius Blain, Dennis Quaid and Chance Kelly.

Released in December 2021, American Underdog had a budget of about 25 million dollars and took in roughly 27 million dollars worldwide. It holds a rating of 7.1 on IMDb from around 28,000 votes and a 7.1 on TMDB from a few hundred votes, while a critics' score of 6.6 comes from a much smaller pool of reviews, so audiences rated it slightly more favorably than critics did.
