Macabre

Set in New Orleans, this horror film follows a woman who returns to a boarding house after spending a year in a psychiatric hospital. She had previously used a room there for secret meetings with a lover, but her life collapsed when her young son drowned and her partner was killed in a violent car accident. Now emotionally unstable, she moves back into the same residence. Her landlord, a blind man who is attracted to her, becomes suspicious when he hears sounds that suggest she is still maintaining a relationship with her deceased lover. Meanwhile, her daughter seeks to push her mother further into insanity.

The film was directed by Lamberto Bava, marking the start of a career that includes nine subsequent films such as Demons and Visions of Murder. The screenplay was written by Bava alongside Antonio Avati and Roberto Gandus. The cast features Bernice Stegers in the lead role, supported by Stanko Molnar, Veronica Zinny, Roberto Posse, Ferdinando Orlandi, and Fernando Pannullo.
