Blackthorn

Blackthorn is a western set in Bolivia, where Butch Cassidy has spent more than twenty years in hiding under the name James Blackthorn. Long presumed dead after the shootout that supposedly killed him and the Sundance Kid, he lives quietly with his companion Yana and plans a return to the United States, where a son he has never met is waiting. Those plans change when he crosses paths with Eduardo Apodaca, a young Spanish engineer on the run after robbing the mine where he worked. The two travel together, and their partnership draws the attention of bands of outlaws and lawmen alike.

Mateo Gil directed the film, his first feature behind the camera, from a screenplay by Miguel Barros; his next film as director was Realive, released in 2016. Sam Shepard plays James Blackthorn, with Eduardo Noriega as Eduardo Apodaca, Stephen Rea as Mackinley, and Magaly Solier as Yana. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Pádraic Delaney appear as the younger Butch Cassidy and Sundance Kid.

Produced across Bolivia, the United Kingdom, Spain and France, the film runs 98 minutes. It holds a 6.5 rating on IMDb from around 11,000 votes and a 6.6 on TMDB from roughly 300 votes, while critics gave it 6.4 from 76 reviews, putting the audience and critical scores close together.
