Kid and Ben, two friends who race cars as a hobby, finish a local rally in a dead heat. The first prize is a dune buggy, and neither man is willing to give it up, so they settle the matter with an eating and drinking contest. Their rivalry is interrupted when thugs wreck the vehicle while carrying out orders for a land speculator who wants the neighbourhood and its amusement park cleared so a skyscraper can be built there. The two former competitors join forces to make the culprits pay for the car.
Marcello Fondato directed and co-wrote the screenplay with Francesco Scardamaglia, with Mario Cecchi Gori producing. It was Fondato's first feature as director, ahead of Charleston three years later. Terence Hill plays Kid and Bud Spencer plays Ben, the pairing on which the film rests; John Sharp, Patty Shepard, Donald Pleasence and Deogratias Huerta appear in supporting roles, among a credited cast of twenty-six. The Italian and Spanish co-production runs 102 minutes.
Released in March 1974, the action comedy took about 37 million dollars worldwide, a strong return that reflects how well the Hill and Spencer double act travelled beyond Italy. On IMDb it holds 7.3/10 from around 15,000 votes, and on TMDB 7.5/10 from roughly 905 votes, consistent scores that place it among the more durable popular comedies of its era.
