Transformers One

Transformers One is an animated science fiction adventure set on Cybertron, long before the Autobots and Decepticons became opposing armies. It follows Orion Pax and D-16, two workers who are close as brothers, until a conflict involving their leader, Sentinel Prime, drives them apart and sets them on paths toward becoming Optimus Prime and Megatron. The film traces how that friendship breaks down and how the pair end up on opposite sides of a struggle that decides the planet's future.

Josh Cooley directed, working from a screenplay by Andrew Barrer, Gabriel Ferrari and Eric Pearson, with Michael Bay, Don Murphy and Lorenzo di Bonaventura among the producers. It is Cooley's fourth feature-length directing credit, following George and A.J., Riley's First Date? and Toy Story 4. The voice cast is led by Chris Hemsworth as Orion Pax, Brian Tyree Henry as D-16, Scarlett Johansson as Elita-1, Keegan-Michael Key as B-127, Jon Hamm as Sentinel Prime and Steve Buscemi as Starscream.

Made for about 75 million dollars, the film took in roughly 129 million dollars worldwide, a modest return against its production cost. Reception has been favourable: on IMDb it holds 7.6/10 from around 63,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 8/10 from a much smaller base of about 1,800 votes. Critics rated it 7.3/10 across 171 reviews, placing it close to the audience scores.
