Short description

Two young men travelling in Mexico come across a puzzle box and open it, setting loose Pinhead, the cenobite who presides over it. One of them becomes Pinhead's captive, while the other turns out to have had his own designs on the box and on his companion. When neither returns home, their families begin searching for them and find a far worse fate waiting.

Directed by Víctor García, this horror thriller runs a brisk 75 minutes and was written by Gary J. Tunnicliffe. García came to it after Mirrors 2 and Frost Giant, with An Affair to Die For and The Communion Girl following later in his career. The cast includes Steven Brand as Dr. Ross Craven, Nick Eversman and Tracey Fairaway as siblings Steven and Emma Craven, Devon Sorvari as Sarah Craven, and Stephan Smith Collins as Pinhead, with Fred Tatasciore providing the character's voice. It was produced by Joel Soisson and Aaron Ockman for Dimension Films, Neo Art & Logic, Puzzlebox Films and Dimension Extreme.

The film sits at the low end of audience approval, holding a rating of 3.5 out of 10 on TMDB from 378 votes.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Dimension Films rushed the production of this movie after realizing they could lose the rights to the 'Hellraiser' franchise if they didn't quickly produce some new installment. The entire production took about three weeks, including 11 days of filming.
  • Doug Bradley was initially invited back to play the role of Pinhead, but after some consideration, he declined, citing, in particular, the financial terms of the proposed contract.
