Charlie Burnz is a veteran comedy writer whose grip on everyday reality is slipping away. When he meets Emma Payge, a talented young street singer in New York, the two strike up an unlikely friendship that crosses a wide generational gap and grows into something neither expected.
The film is directed by Billy Crystal, who also stars as Charlie and co-wrote the screenplay with Alan Zweibel; the two also produced it with Dominique Telson. It is the third feature Crystal directed, following Forget Paris in 1995 and 61* in 2001. Tiffany Haddish plays Emma, with Penn Badgley, Laura Benanti, Louisa Krause and Diedre Friel among the supporting cast. The production was handled by Stage 6 Films with RocketScience, Big Indie Pictures and Astute Films.
Released in May 2021, the film runs 117 minutes. Its worldwide box office came to about 3 million dollars, a modest return. Audiences have been warmer toward it than critics: it holds a 6.7 out of 10 on IMDb from roughly 6,500 votes and a 6.9 out of 10 on TMDB from about 165 votes, while the film critics' rating stands at 5.3 out of 10 from 100 reviews.
