Set in Northern Italy during the early 20th century, this stop-motion animated drama follows the Ughetto family in their mountain village of Ugheterra. Facing severe hardships, including labor exploitation and poor living conditions, Luigi Ughetto and his family leave their home and cross the Alps to seek a better existence in France. The story is presented as a reconstruction of the director's own family history, narrated by his perspective as he retraces the journey and destiny of his grandparents.
