A socially awkward sixteen-year-old girl returns home to find that her mother is engaged to a man named John Smith. While John initially appears to be an ideal partner due to his intelligence and charm, the teenager becomes suspicious of his behavior and the strange events occurring around him. She grows convinced that her potential stepfather is hiding a dark secret and is not actually human, leading her to investigate his mysterious activities to protect her mother.
