The Odd Life of Timothy Green
Short description
Cindy and Jim Green long to have a child but cannot conceive one. One evening, in frustration, they write down all the qualities they would want their son to have, seal the notes in a box and bury it in their garden. That night a storm sweeps over their town, and a boy named Timothy appears at their door, claiming to be their son. He possesses the traits the couple had described, and his arrival reshapes how Cindy, Jim and those around them see their lives.
The 2012 Disney film was directed by Peter Hedges, who also wrote the screenplay. It sits between his earlier Dan in Real Life and his later Ben Is Back. Jennifer Garner and Joel Edgerton play the Greens, with CJ Adams as Timothy and supporting turns from Odeya Rush, Shohreh Aghdashloo and Rosemarie DeWitt. The credited cast runs to 39 names.
Made for about 25 million dollars, the film took in roughly 56 million worldwide. On IMDb it holds 6.6 out of 10 from over 48,000 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 7 out of 10 from a much smaller voter base. A critics' score of 5.2 out of 10 from 131 reviews places it below both audience measures.
What's left behind the scenes
- In an interview, S. J. Adams said that he was 10 years old at the time of filming. And in the same interview, he said that on the film's poster, where leaves are growing from the main character's legs, the legs are not his, but those of his stunt double.
- During the football championship, you can notice one actor standing behind Jim and Cindy, and almost simultaneously he is standing in front of Timothy. Later, when the game is over, the same actor is seen again behind Jim and Cindy, and then he celebrates at the goal on the other side of the field.
- Although Stanleyville is described as a Midwestern town, the film was shot in Georgia, in the towns of Monroe and Rex, which can be recognized by the names of several streets named after Confederate generals.
- The film was shot in the same house as «Halloween 2» (2009).
