Everything Went Fine

Everything Went Fine follows Emmanuèle, whose life is upended when her 85-year-old father André suffers a stroke and is left partly paralysed in hospital. A man who loved life and collected art now finds himself dependent on others, and he asks his daughter to help him die. The request forces Emmanuèle and her sister Pascale to confront a decision no child wants to face.

François Ozon directed and co-wrote the screenplay with Philippe Piazzo, working from Emmanuèle Bernheim's account of her own father. It stands as the sixteenth of the twenty films Ozon has directed, arriving between Summer of 85 and Peter von Kant. Sophie Marceau plays Emmanuèle, with André Dussollier as André, Géraldine Pailhas as Pascale, and Charlotte Rampling, Éric Caravaca and Hanna Schygulla in supporting roles. The film runs 113 minutes and was produced in France and Belgium.

On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.6 from 172 votes, while a critics' score of 7.5 from 69 reviews places it noticeably higher than the audience response. That gap suggests reviewers responded more warmly to Ozon's restrained handling of the subject than general viewers did.
