The Lorax

The Lorax is set in Thneedville, a town where everything is artificial and no plants grow. Ted, a twelve-year-old boy, wants to impress Audrey, the girl he likes, who dreams of seeing a real tree. Since none exist in his hometown, he leaves in search of one, tracking down the reclusive Once-ler to hear the story of the Lorax, the grumpy but charming creature who once spoke for the trees. His efforts put him at odds with the local businessman who profits from selling bottled air to the town's residents.

The film is an animated family feature directed by Chris Renaud, working from a screenplay by Ken Daurio and Cinco Paul. It followed his earlier Despicable Me films and later led into Despicable Me 2, The Secret Life of Pets and its sequel, and Despicable Me 4. The voice cast includes Danny DeVito as the Lorax, Ed Helms as the Once-ler, Zac Efron as Ted, Rob Riggle as Mr. O'Hare, Taylor Swift as Audrey and Jenny Slate as Mrs. Wiggins.

Produced with a budget of 70 million US dollars, the film went on to take about 349 million US dollars worldwide. It carries an IMDb rating of 6.4 from roughly 143,000 votes and a TMDB rating of 6.5 from around 4,000 votes, while a critics' rating stands at 8 out of 10 from 71 reviews.
