Homunculus

A homeless man with amnesia agrees to participate in a medical experiment conducted by a student. In exchange for money, he undergoes trepanation, a procedure where a hole is drilled into his skull. Following the surgery, the man develops a supernatural ability to see the hidden traumas and subconscious darkness within other people, causing the line between reality and illusion to blur.

This Japanese production was directed by Takashi Shimizu, marking the 13th of 20 films he has directed. It follows his previous work, Howling Village, and precedes Suicide Forest Village. The screenplay was written by Eisuke Naito, Takashi Shimizu, and Naruki Matsuhisa. The film stars Go Ayano as Susumu Nakoshi and Ryo Narita as Manabu Itou, with supporting roles played by Yukino Kishii, Anna Ishii, and Seiyo Uchino.
