Short description

Waiting for Europe is a documentary that follows a young woman named Vania as she travels from Bulgaria to Portugal and Spain before returning to her home country. Seeking personal independence and a better life, Vania navigates the challenges of emigration from a female perspective. The story explores her internal struggle with identity and her encounters with exploitation, isolation, and illegal status while she searches for answers to fundamental life questions. The film reflects on the everyday realities, fears, and hopes of an ordinary person striving for a sense of stability within a perceived European utopia.

The film was directed by Christine Reeh, marking the first in a chronological list of her directed works, followed by Mãe Fátima in 2009. Produced by Isabel Machado through C.R.I.M. Produções, the project is a joint production between Bulgaria, Spain, and Portugal. The documentary has a total runtime of 58 minutes.
