Shooter

Shooter follows Bob Lee Swagger, a highly trained Marine scout sniper who withdraws from service and lives in seclusion after an operation goes badly wrong. He is persuaded to return when a government figure asks for his help in foiling an alleged plan to assassinate the President of the United States. The assignment turns out to be a setup: Swagger is blamed for the attack he was meant to prevent and becomes the target of a nationwide pursuit. Wounded and hunted, he sets out to find the people responsible, clear his name and settle the score with those who betrayed him.

Antoine Fuqua directed the film, the seventh of nineteen features in his career, arriving between King Arthur and Brooklyn's Finest. Jonathan Lemkin wrote the screenplay, and Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Ric Kidney produced. Mark Wahlberg plays Swagger, with Michael Peña as Nick Memphis, Danny Glover as Colonel Isaac Johnson, Kate Mara as Sarah Fenn, Elias Koteas as Jack Payne and Rhona Mitra as Alourdes Galindo among a credited cast of forty.

Made for about 61 million dollars, the film took roughly 96 million worldwide, a modest return. It holds a 7.2 rating on IMDb from around 375,000 votes and a 7.1 on TMDB from far fewer, while critics were cooler at 5.6 from 152 reviews, so audiences rated it noticeably higher than critics did.
