Short description
Hi, Mom is a Chinese comedy-drama with fantasy elements. Its central character is Jia Xiaoling, a young woman left shattered by a serious accident involving her mother. Carrying the feeling that she has never been the daughter her mother hoped for, she is carried back to the year 1981, where she encounters her mother as a young woman, before motherhood. What follows is her attempt to draw close to this younger version of her mother and to change the course of her life, which sets up the film's main conflict between what Xiaoling wants to repair and what she cannot control.
The film was directed by Jia Ling, who also stars as Jia Xiaoling and co-wrote the screenplay with Sun Jibin and Wang Yu. It was her first feature as director, followed by Yolo in 2024. Zhang Xiaofei plays Li Huanying, with Shen Teng, Chen He, He Huan and Liu Jia among a credited cast of 32. Produced by companies including Beijing Jingxi Culture and Tourism and Alibaba Pictures Group, it cost about 59 million USD and returned roughly 822 million USD worldwide, a return that reflects its wide popularity in China. On IMDb it holds 6.9/10 from around 3,700 votes, and on TMDB it stands at 7/10 from 177 votes.

- At the 51st minute, the blue team serves, the red team wins the rally, and a point is awarded to them. Shortly after, the red team loses their serve, and the blue team scores a point. In 1981, under international volleyball rules, a point was only awarded to a team when they won their own serve. The "rally-point" system (where a point is awarded on every rally) began to be introduced in the late 1980s.
